Blog 2: Between the Viewing and the Purchase
In this series, Behind the Scenes at Villa Due Mondi, we take you along on our renovation journey and show how our house is gradually being transformed into a holiday villa in Piedmont.
The period between the viewing and the final purchase at the notary felt incredibly long. Everything had been decided, yet most of what happened took place behind the scenes. Collecting documents, signing paperwork, sending everything off, and then… waiting. And waiting some more.
During that time, we realized just how eager we were to return to the house. Fortunately, there were a few special moments that made the waiting a little easier.
One of those moments was around Henk’s birthday. We received a call from my cousin and his wife, who happened to be at the house at the time. Through a video call, we were able to see the property live once again. Even from a distance, it felt wonderful to be there for a moment and be reminded of why we had fallen in love with the house. In the photo, you can see that the grass along the driveway had already grown considerably.
A few days later, another memorable moment followed. Someone we had met during our house search in Italy visited the property on our behalf and surprised us with drone footage. The images beautifully captured the location of the house within the surrounding landscape and highlighted just how special the area truly is. To this day, we are still incredibly grateful for that thoughtful gesture.
During the same period, I also started working on preparations that could be done from the Netherlands. Small projects, perhaps, but ones that would eventually become part of the house. For example, I restored a set of wooden chairs that will soon have a place in the garden of Villa Due Mondi. It felt good to be working on the property, even from afar.
